REQUIRED READING
Starter
The rules are important to the operation of a smoothly run forum. We appreciate that you are reading them and expect full compliance. If you require any help there are links provided below to offer self assistance, but do not be afraid to ask your fellow members for assistance. The chatbox to the left is a click away from opinions and aid.
Torn is a canon only RP site. This means that only canon characters from either the DC or Marvel Universes are acceptable. Additionally characters must be approved before roleplaying. If you have a character in mind, you may want to visit the Canon listing to check if they are available. If the character is unlisted, feel free to ask, we may have just overlooked them.

Once you have registered an account and decided on a character, it is time to head on over to the Application forum. The Work in Progress forum is for building a character application, make your thread there and let us know when it is ready for review. Don't worry if a staff member requests an edit, it is all a part of the process. When in doubt, read some of the approved applications for ideas.

Respect
No matter who you are, admin to guest, you are required to respect your fellow players at all times. The staff is here to help members, we are no more above the rule than anyone else. Likewise we will not tolerate rudeness, arguing, flaming and all around nasty behaviour to anyone else. If you are seen to be doing this, it is a two strike offense. On the second strike you will be permanently banned. We are not here to make life hard, we have lives to live as well. This is a roleplay forum, we are all here to have a good time, please keep that in mind. Use common sense and treat others as you would wish to be treated.
Avatars
The avatar you choose to post with should reflect the real world Face Claim you apply with. Your gif image, OTM and posting tables can be any other related comic/cartoon/anime/movie reference that you desire (within reason).

Post Quality
While not every post is going to be a master stroke of comic book related literature, we would still keep ourselves above the level of chat room RP. We know there may be times when there isn't much to say or do, but we expect everyone to post at least four-hundred (400) words. This is typically three to four paragraphs, at minimum. Single line replies and the like are simply unacceptable.
Please remember to spellcheck your work before posting. There are very few time restraints here and absolutely no reason for your post quality to suffer. We tend to find that you give what you get, if you are responding to a great post you will usually try to make your reply just as great. That is the sort of sentiment we would like to endear in our members.
Lastly, our posting format is done in the past tense from a third person perspective. Additionally, we would like to maintain a timeline of events through the world. As such we require a time stamp at the start of each thread to keep things in order.

Activity
It is important to be as active as possible. It's hard to have an rp when someone doesn't show up for a month. We can understand if something comes up that requires an absence, real life always comes first, you just have to let us know is all. Once a month we will preform an activity check in the way of Monthly Updates. You will be responsible for posting at least three (3) times a month, that's less than once a week per month. You will also need to be able to describe what your character is doing, with which we will update our plot in order to create a more dynamic atmosphere. If you become inactive, without informing us first, you will be warned for your first missed activity check. Miss two within the four month span and your character will be deleted and archived.

You may have a maximum of Three (3) canon characters.
You are allowed to have more than one character, but we want to establish your first character before applying for another. This is to ensure that there are ample characters to go around, and that each person has opportunity to have the character they most desire. Two of those characters may be from the same universe, two from DC or two from Marvel, but your third must always be from the other. You may only apply for a second character after your first has reached twenty (20) posts. You may only apply for a third character after your first has reached forty (40) posts and your second has reached twenty (20) posts. If your first character isn't really jiving with you, or you can't seem to make them fit in with the site, and want to change... just let us know and we will try and work with you on that.

Be believable
Respect the laws of the world and their consequences. Even if you are a villain, you must consider the response given to you for your crimes. In either world, the government usually comes up with a response to a destructive individual that becomes a repeat offender. Just consider all the ramifications of your actions and how it would happen if it were real. Yes, we play in a world of superpowers and magic... believable is a stretch of the imagination in that respect. Keep in mind however that in the reality DC and Marvel, these things have existed for a long time. People are accustomed to seeing such things. Imagine how people would react in a real world situation where Spiderman were real or Green Lantern showed up from time to time.
No Godmoding or Metagaming
Taking control of another character without permission or using knowledge that your character does not know is not allowed for the sake of fairness. A character cannot know of another characters weaknesses unless it was otherwise known in their continuity of origin. Such discoveries must be made through roleplaying, otherwise this is a case of metagaming. IE: While Hawkeye might know that Tony Stark is Ironman, as a matter of public knowledge, he has no way of knowing that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Godmoding is when a character always acts to the best of their ability, or better, to never face a negative consequence but still always win. We live in a realm of the comic book, no one always wins.
